Fandom PDX was lucky enough to be one of a handful of pop culture events to happen in 2020 prior to the pandemic. Shortly after, we started work on returning in 2021 and, while delayed, it looks like we’re finally in a position to move forward.
Newcon PDX, we mean Anime PDX, or is it Fandom PDX? Nope. It’s WasabiCon PDX will take place Saturday and Sunday, August 21-22, 2021 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel Portland, Oregon.
Why WasabiCon PDX?
The company that now owns the event, Green Mustard Entertainment, started as an anime club called Wasabi Anime back in 2001. Wasabi Anime is now their flagship brand for pop culture events around North America and, in 2012, they started an event similar to the Newcon PDX format in Jacksonville, Florida called WasabiCon.
After a couple of years as Fandom PDX, the Wasabi Anime team realized that it was easier to run their stand alone conventions under one simple brand: WasabiCon.
WasabiCon PDX promises to be everything you loved about Newcon/Anime/Fandom PDX, but with the structure and proven success of the WasabiCon brand. We’re excited to start making announcements in the coming days and weeks to get you up to speed about the forthcoming convention, our plans for running events in this new post-COVID world and much, much more.
For now, check out our newly redesigned website as we start the journey back to live and in person events together.
2020 is almost over and, like you, we’re ready for a fresh outlook that (we hope!) 2021 will bring. We have a number of things to share with you over the next couple of months, but for now you here’s the immediate info you need to know:
ANNOUNCEMENT
We will be making a major announcement about Fandom PDX on January 2, 2021 – the date Fandom PDX 2021 was originally scheduled to take place. Watch our website (or any Fandom PDX social media) for updates.
FANDOM PDX ONLINE
We’ve decided to delay Fandom PDX Online until February 13-14, 2021. This is because of two reasons:
The announcement on January 2nd will impact how we are presenting things. #StayTuned
We’ve always wanted to something cool for Valentine’s Day, and this seemed like a unique opportunity to do so.
Fandom PDX 2021 is still happening and is scheduled to take place May 29-30, 2021. We’re delaying ticket sales until we get capacity and safety details worked out with our host property, but the plan is to have tickets on sale on or before Fandom PDX Online.
THANK YOU for your continued support as we work to expand our celebration of Fandom in Portland, Oregon in 2021.
At Fandom PDX, we always use the phrase “Fandom is Family” when referring to how we feel about our attendees, guests, and vendors every year. This is especially true during these trying times that we are all experiencing. After discussing options with our partners at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel, we have decided to delay Fandom PDX until the summer. Green Mustard Entertainment would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel for their flexibility and help for making this happen. The health and safety of any and everyone who is a part of Fandom PDX is of the utmost importance to us, and we cannot in good conscience host our annual gathering when doing so could potentially threaten their health and wellbeing.
Fandom PDX 2021 will take place May 29-30, 2021 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel in Portland, Oregon.
So what’s next?
ARTISTS AND VENDORS
As you may have noticed, we held off putting any exhibitor space on sale since we wanted to be sure about the show moving forward with its original dates in January. For now, we will continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on the format of mass gatherings before addressing the logistics needed to put space on sale. We appreciate your patience.
ATTENDEES
As mentioned before, we held off putting anything on sale until we felt secure in the dates of the event. Our goal is to have tickets on sale for the new days (May 29-30, 2021) in November of 2020. Please watch this website and our social media for updates.
HOTEL ROOMS
Reservation information will be posted before tickets go on sale in November.

Started in 2001 as Wasabi Anime®, Green Mustard Entertainment (www.GreenMustard.com) is a production company that designs, operates, and promotes events for consumer-focused media shows (aka “pop cultureconventions”). Our experienced team of artists, designers, event managers, and performers have developed themed entertainment for a number of nationally known conventions and festivals for over 100 events including Fan Expo Canada, MEGACON, Anime Expo, and dozens of others.
In 2018, Green Mustard Entertainment acquired Anime PDX and Newcon PDX and rebranded them as one event: Fandom PDX®. Prior to the GME’s purchase, Newcon PDX (started the winter of 2012) and Anime PDX (started as Newcon Mini in 2014) served the Pacific Northwest fan base as the local, hotel based pop culture convention experience. Attendance grew annually, and – by 2016 – the Anime/Newcon PDX brand had hosted ten successful conventions in the region. Since that first event, attendance has grown to exceed 2,000 fans over the event’s two days in 2017. The 2018 January event was cancelled and acquired by GME shortly after. Fandom PDX 2018 took place that summer and drew 754 attendees, and Fandom PDX 2019 increased 68% to 1266 attendees. Our goal is to continue to grow and exceed Newcon PDX 2017 at Fandom PDX 2020… but we need sponsors and support from businesses like you!
