Fandom PDX 2018 is in the books. THANK YOU to everyone who attended!
4 months later…
In January of 2018 Green Mustard Entertainment, Inc. purchased the name and assets of Anime PDX and Newcon PDX from Events PDX, LLC. Our goal? To reboot the franchise after the abrupt cancellation of Newcon PDX 2018. Originally, we had planned to take the summer off and roll Anime PDX into Newcon PDX (now Fandom PDX) in January of 2019. After seeing the impact the cancellation had on the Portland regional fan community, though, we decided to fast-track one more convention in the Anime PDX time slot.
So, in February of this year, we started work on Fandom PDX 2018 – and last weekend we drew 754 attendees over the two days of the event. The production team worked tirelessly to rebuild the convention from the ashes of the old one while focusing on avoiding the missteps of the preceding productions. Fandom PDX 2018 happened thanks to the attendees, the guests, the artists, the vendors, and the local businesses that took the time to support the project.
There are so many people to thank for this and I apologize in advance if I have left anyone out. (My brain is still recovering from the whirlwind of running all of this.)
THANK YOU to our production team: Amber, Andy, Bethany, Chris, John, Jordan, Kaelisa, Lacie, Lexi, Reed, Shannon, Simone, and Trey.
Many thanks to our guests: Kimberly Brooks, Richard Horvitz, Eric Trueheart, Brett Weldele, Club Pangaea, Dying Light LARP, Floydman Sumner, Kamon Tari, PDX Time Machine, and Studio Hood.
Infinite thanks to all of our Artists & Vendors who took a chance with us this summer.
Special thanks to Oni Press for stepping up as a sponsor and supporting local small business endeavors like ours.
Much love and appreciation to Scorpio Photography for stepping in last minute to help document the event.
Thank you to all of our event sponsors and specifically Travel Portland for welcoming the Florida team into their amazing city!
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the team from the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel for their ability to adapt with us to this show’s reboot and our modes of operation.
So now what?
We do it again. We do it bigger. We do it better.
The team has already started production on Fandom PDX 2019. The event will take place Saturday and Sunday, January 5-6, 2019 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel. This time we’ve rented ALL of the convention space at the hotel and we have over six months to build, plan, and create this event from the best parts of the old one with some new elements that Green Mustard Entertainment, Inc. can bring to the table.
So keep watching folks. We’re only getting started.
